Vehicle accidents - problem and solution

Accidents or mishaps keep happening every day every now and then. Some mishaps are unnoticeable or are a nuisance, other get serious and unavoidable. One trips and falls over a cat or dog, another crashes into a pole and another steps on a banana peels and slips like a skater. Such accidents are alright as they harm only slightly and happen almost every day. Sometimes when an accident takes place due to the rashness of people and causes harm to others, they become serious and alarming. Therefore, one should be careful on the road and in public places so as not to harm oneself as well as others.

Luckily, neither I nor my family has ever had experience of any major accidents like a car or motorcycle accident at all. As for myself, there are two reasons why. Firstly, I don’t know how to ride or drive any vehicles and secondly I don’t own one. Although my two brothers each own one a motorcycle, they always ride them carefully. Since vehicle accidents are one of the major problem in society, I am going to write and describe my point of view here regarding vehicles accidents-problems and solutions.

I think the world would be a much better place if there were fewer car accidents. Car accidents happen daily and regularly these days. The accidents cause pain to the victims’ families. Many people think that they will never be involved in car accidents. So what causes the problem? There are many different reasons why car accidents happen. Some people are distracted while driving. They are on the phone, sending text messages or fixing their make-up and most of the drivers are distracted because of rubbernecking. They set their eyes on something else and run into other cars. Another major reason is drinking. Some people do not know how dangerous it is to drive drunk; furthermore they might not even know they have been drinking because they drank too much. The fatigue of driving for many hours causes many accidents too. Drivers get tired and fall asleep without even noticing it. Speeding is also one of the reasons for accidents. Even though there are speed limits for different places, some people don’t follow them. Some people race on highways on motorcycles or in cars. Some people get drunk and drive as fast as rockets. And other people face accidents because of them. Some people may ignore the laws and run into us. We may not deserve it, but accidents happen at any time. It is our responsibility to always stay awake and aware.

There is no simple or specific solution to the problem of car accidents. All of us especially drivers and riders, need to follow the basic rules and laws. People need to be aware of accidents anytime and anywhere. Everyone should obey and follow the rules. That’s why there are rules, to keep and follow. However, some people don’t take traffic laws seriously. They just think of driving as part of their daily routine. This mistaken thought could lead not only them but other people to death.

To be stricter so people follow the laws, I think the authorities should increase fines for not following the laws. For example, people who jaywalk, people who pass through red lights, people who throw litter out from their car windows and etc, all should pay the fines realizing they have done something wrong with conscience. When I was still in Indonesia, I saw some people ignoring the warning sign ‘’NO LITTERING’’ from inside their car but still they threw litter from their car windows. The police officer did reproach them but they tried to settle the matter with bribe. They thought that bribing the police officer would do the magic trick. But there are some police officers who are at fault too because they play along and accept the bribe. But it is wrong for them to bribe in the first place.

Another basic solution people could implement to prevent car accidents is not to drive after drinking. People who get drunk should take a taxi or ask one of their friends to drive them home. Another thing the authorities can do is to put more cameras on the road to monitor those drivers who speed over the limit. Drivers should get enough sleep or rest before they drive. They should not go for a long journey after heavy loads of work. All of these methods can prevent the fatigue of driving for many hours.

I know people don’t wish to get involved in car accidents. But some people don’t take it seriously until they actually get involved. The problem will not be solved until drivers and pedestrians take action and take the warnings or laws seriously. Fines and policing will not solve everything because some people will only slow down in front of the cameras and police officers. They will speed up again when no one is watching. If it continues like this, no one will be able to solve it. The solution lies within their own conscience and honesty.
